Today, a great deal of darts threw at the speaker board with new product offerings which are currently working to explore what speakers may do. A report also emerged today from 9to5Google that Google is seeking to build a high-end “max” version of its Home speaker, information that comes only a week before the company is likely to flaunt a cheaper “mini” version of the speaker, also.
What does this market mean for Apple? The company is set to release its $349 HomePod speaker in a few months. On the pricing front, Apple is in a position it has not been in for a bit, selling a device that has orders of magnitudes than competitors with techie software features available at launch.
Apple will lose out due to pricing initially on some clients. The Echo Dot has sound that is shit, but at $ 50, it in impulse purchase territory. Apple is selling a different product here, but it is also not. A lot of people will be buying this sound gizmo who already have good speaker setups and are simply doing so because of the “smart” part of the smart speaker. At $349, the HomePod will out-price its competitors all by margins that are comical. Thanks to a deals that are bulk, you can buy four Amazon Echos.
In addition, it is worth mentioning that the aim to differentiate their HomePod as a listening device as opposed to a direct Echo/Home competitor of Apple is. The HomePod will be a speaker, their advertising is just making up that voice assistants are hard and Siri doesn’t work like a dream yet.
The sound quality is likely going to run laps around whatever Google and Amazon have now, but Apple didn’t build the HomePod because it realized now was the opportunity to make a fantastic audio product, they did so because they probably can not afford to wait getting Siri stationed in people’s living rooms. Apple will probably be adding HomeKit-centric qualities to the HomePod firmware sooner rather than later, but now, the launch appears to be mostly focused on its own Apple Music integration.
The Amazon Echos, on the other hand, can do it all, including a great deal of weird stuff. I don’t have any doubts it feels like it just wants to keep experimenting while it has the attention and the success of the Echo shocks Amazon as it hones in on a form variable which will be conducive to people buying stuff. The company sells Plus, Appearance, Show, Dot, Harness, Position and the Echo speakers. The Echo Show seems to have some ideas as a smart hub, although stuff like the Echo Appearance is a small reach.
Amazon’s voice assistant dominance appears to be living on borrowed time.
The Echo might be the best that is out now, but integration is required by the utility of home assistants than Amazon is capable of supplying. It might require a little bit for Apple and Google to figure out the harmony that is perfect here, but they have the choice for deep integration. Its ability to make consumers feel comfortable with an always-on camera, which will probably be a necessity for Amazon actually using the Echo line to sell anything in the long run is probably relied on by much of Amazon’s future success.
Amazon has an early lead here, and Apple has a significant opportunity while Google is currently trying to differentiate its offering. The HomePod is definitely going to be the expensive option once it drops, but with the functionality being launched by Amazon and Google, will the device be able to compete on the software side?
We still do not even have an exact launch date, so there are obviously still a few questions left for Apple to reply on their speaker ambitions that are smart.
